Education and Qualification

Background:

Md Rafikul Islam had undergone the Officer Training Programme from the North-West Officer Training Regiment in the British Army before becoming a Solicitor in June 2020. Working in contentious and non-contentious matters, Rafikul obtained higher rights of audience in civil proceedings in 2020. Rafikul was called to the Bar in July 2021 by Lincoln’s Inn and commenced practising as a barrister in November 2021. As a former solicitor, Rafikul understands that a barrister is expected to bring all the case elements together when it matters the most in court and can be an integral part of the client’s legal team.

Rafikul joins Rowchester as a tenant, having worked within the legal sector for nearly five years, where he represented clients in many aspects of Family, Immigration and Asylum matters, from initial meetings to representing clients in court.

Practice Areas:

Rafikul is developing a specialism in Private Family Practice and regularly undertakes work in Domestic Abuse and Private Law, representing clients with/without notice hearings, fact-finding hearings and final hearings.

Rafikul’s practice covers all aspects of Immigration and Asylum Law, representing clients in bail, appeal and deportation hearings at the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tier tribunals. Written work includes drafting skeleton arguments, grounds of appeal and judicial review applications.

Rafikul also speaks in Sylheti and Bengali language.
